Lose Your Expectations

I just got off the phone with a really cool guy who is going to be taking a Bootcamp. During our conversation, we got into the topic of expectations.

So many people have expectations about their life. They think, “If I take this job, my life is going to be so much easier” or “If I learn how to talk to women, my life is going to be so much better.”

What having expectations really means is that you’re not living in the present, because life is never what you think it’s going to be. Life is never exactly what your expectations envision.

Ask yourself these questions: Is your life exactly what you thought it was going to be? Did your career go exactly according to plan? Did your marriage go exactly according to plan? Are you making the exact amount of money you thought you’d make? Are you living in the exact type of home you thought you’d buy?

Every time we take on a new task, we take on expectations. I’ve heard guys say things like “I’m going to learn to meet women, and then meet ten women every day.” Anytime you have expectations, though, you are going to be let down. Having expectations means you are not living in the present and in the moment.

The only way to live is in the present . . . every minute and every second of every day. If you’re living in the present, life is going to come to you. When you have expectations, you are not living in the present.

The less you expect from life, the more you will receive in life. The only way to live is in the present.

If you get a new job, just go in there and kick ass every second of every day. If you want to meet women, go out there and enjoy every moment of every day.

When you have expectations, what happens is that you are putting pressure on yourself. You will not be able to concentrate on what’s happening in the moment because you are going to be comparing the actual moment with how you expected the moment to be. The problem is that expectations are almost always far greater (or at the very least different) than what’s really happening.

I know so many guys who allow their expectations to distort their perception of their day. They’ll think, “Wow, I only talked to three women today and I wanted to talk to ten.” So they are looking at their day as a failure instead of embracing what a great day it was. They look at their day as a failure because it didn’t match their expectations.

Not only can expectations negatively affect and distort how you view what’s happening around you, but they can also affect how people interact with you. When you have expectations (and thus are not present), people around you will see that you’re not present and will respond to you in a much different way than if you were completely present and in the moment when you were around them.

When you are not present, you are manifesting your own results. You will project a closed energy and not be attracting people to you like you otherwise would. You will end up missing the true energy of life.

Think about how you have seen this happen in your own life. How many times have you gotten really excited about a certain party? You have all these expectations about what the party will be like, who will be there, and what kind of experience the party will be for you.

More often than not, you don’t really have a great time at these events because of all the expectations you had. Think if you had just gone to that same party with no expectations and planned to just enjoy yourself. Think how many of those nights might have turned out differently.

How about on dates? Do you think that expectations might have played a role in the outcome of some of your dates? Think how many times you went out on your dates will high expectations, only to realize that you don’t even really like the person.

So take a look at your life and take a look at your expectations, and tell me if they’ve ever matched. The amazing thing about life is all the great little surprises that happen when you’re present in the moment.

Deep Conversations

Conversation is an art. Conversation is a skill. Conversation is something we all need to learn if we are going to be able to relate deeper with each other in general, and especially in our connections with the members of the opposite sex.

To master the art of conversation, and particularly conversation with members of the opposite sex, there are a couple things you need to learn. I’ve talked a little about this in past blogs.

Women are really good storytellers. When they tell a story, they put tons of life into the story and are full of passion in how they deliver the story. When men tell stories, they just give the facts.

No matter how you tell a story, though, the real question is how to get the other person to open up to you on a deeper level. How do you encourage someone to feel safe opening up to you and to share their stories and their passions with you?

The topic of the story you tell doesn’t matter. It could be about the phenomenal time you had on your trip to Italy, or about your love of cars, or your love of flowers.

What you talk about in a story is not the important factor in whether you can get the person to whom you’re telling that story to open up to you. What is important is that when you are diving deep into the story you are telling someone, that you engage that person so that they want to really dive deep into a story of their own.

So after you tell someone something so passion-filled, you need to then look that person right in the eyes and invite them to reciprocate and share something equally passionate with you. So if you tell someone about your phenomenal trip to Italy, for example, what you would do when you’re finished is to look the person directly in the eyes and say “Tell me about your favorite place to go.”

Be sure to say whatever it is with enthusiasm, energy and confidence . . . but also say it with a child-like curiosity. It is that curiosity that will really intrigue the other person.

The reason that so many dates fail is because men and women sit there telling each other stories, but they don’t ever go deeper. So what happens is one person will tell a story, and then neither asks the other what they think or how they feel about the situation or topic of the story.

Knowing how to go deeper in your conversations with the opposite sex is the only way to move a relationship forward and take it to the next level. So next time you’re having a conversation with someone you interested in, engage them to see if this is a person with whom you really want to get deep.

You may have tried some of these programs, with little or no luck. The truth is there is no single answer in terms of losing weight. Everyone’s body is different but you can take the initiative to experiment with different programs until you find the one that best suits you. You can also be in charge of motivating yourself to make the change.

There are countless resources online on how to lose weight. Which ones would be optimal for you? Wouldn’t it be easy just to read a case study and simply follow directions to shed those unwanted pounds? Sure that may work for some, but for others you need to add motivation. Write out clearly what your workout plan and schedule will be. Once you start on a schedule, you can put your mind into autopilot and move forward according to the plan you set out for yourself. This also means that you plan out your meals down to the hour. Prepare your meals the night before, so that you do not impulsively eat whatever is around you. Make sure also to portion out your meals. If necessary, you can set a timer to the times of day you want to eat at.

That is why it is important to implement strategies such as carbohydrate cycling where you drop the percentage of carbohydrates on certain days up to 50% and ramp up other days up to 40%. This allows your body to constantly be focused on burning fat. It keeps your body in flux.

These three exercises coupled with a strong diet plan will help you on your way to 8 pack abs. You will need to do these exercises 3 times a week. Each time you do the exercises expect to do 10-15 reps with 3-5 sets for each.
